If you have no idea what the title of this article is referring to, then you need to visit the East Side Restaurant in New Britain Connecticut and see for yourself. When a diner orders a liter (that’s right a liter) of beer, the jovial bartender delivers it to your table and before you know it, he is chanting “Ticki – Tocki – Ticki – Tocki”, and then the entire restaurant responds, “Hoy! Hoy! Hoy!” Then you drink your beer. What an amazing atmosphere for a birthday, father’s day, or any Friday night for that matter.
East Side has been serving liters and two liters (crazy) for over 70 years, but patrons don’t just come here to chant and drink their favorite brews. The German cuisine may be the best of its kind in the state and if your not in the mood for Sauerbraten, Goulash, or Jager Schnitzel, East Side offers some unique options for a German restaurant such as; Roasted Turkey, Braised Short Ribs, and Chicken Parmigian.
What did we eat?
For Starters:
Beef Barley Soup – Perfect Start to dinner. Very tasty, but not over filling.
For Dinner:
Roasted Stuffed Turkey – Nice mix of white and dark meat perfectly cooked and moist with delicious stuffing. The family style turnips and corn were also a great touch, especially for this dish.
Fresh Broiled Flounder – Our seafood lover was a bit skeptical ordering fish at a German Restaurant. He left a believer…
Roast Loin of Pork – We left the German dish to our German friend and he had plenty of compliments. The pork was tender and the gravy could be served in a liter as a beverage it was so good. Hoy! Hoy! Hoy!
