If you haven’t yet tuned in to watch the Big Break Kaanapli you are really missing out on a great season. The golf has been very good throughout and the drama on the show has been even better.
Christina “Bad Etiquette” Lecuyer has been the focal point of the show stepping in lines, whispering in players back swings, and cheering on poor shots by her competitor. As the remaining contestants began to make her aware of these pitfalls, Christina did try to act more appropriately, but with her improved attitude cam poor play.
|
IN the most recent episode of Big Break Christina was eliminated by Sophie Sandolo: a relatively unknown European player, by four strokes in the elimination challenge. Christina fought a case of the severe “duck hooks”, pulling most of her iron shots 2-30 yards left of her targets. Sophie on the other hand remained cool under pressure, attacking pins with her patented low punch shots under the severe winds at Kaanapali.
The field is down to three players and it is truly anyone’s competition to win. There is no questions that all three players have the potential to be successful on the LPGA Tour sometime in the future. Christina may have that potential as well, but here mental approach is far behind the three remaining contestant.
What to look for in the upcoming challenges:
|
Lori Atsedes
Probably the most experienced player of the three. Lori has continued to remain ultra confident and determined throughout the competition. She seems to have all the shots and understands exactly what she can and cannot do on a golf course.

|
Sophie Sandolo
When the show started Sophie seemed like an afterthought that would be overpowered by the big hitters and even bigger personalities. Episode after episode Sophie has proved to be a tenacious competitor with nerves of steel and a golf game to be highly respected. She is very short of the tee, but continuously hits second and third shots that put unbelievable amounts of pressure on her competitors. Sophie may not win, but knocking her out will be an incredible challenge.

Kim Welch
How Kim Welch has managed not to make the LPGA is beyond this writer. She has Michelle Wie length without all the headaches. It is clear that of the three remaining contestants Kim has the most upside going forward. While her competitors hit hybrids and 4 irons into the greens, Kim hit 8 & 7 irons. It is also impressive to see how well her swing holds up under pressure, though putting may be her only weakness. If Kim Welch is on her game, Big Break Kaanapali is hers to win.
