Tiger’s performance at Torrey Pines was superhuman and probably the greatest display of physical and mental toughness that any of us will ever see in our lifetime. That’s right Woody Austin, Tiger is a TOUGH competitor, not “someone who seems to get all the breaks”.
Unfortunately we learned just how serious the pain must have been for Tiger during his 5-round US Open victory when he declared himself out for the rest of the 2008 PGA season. The Tour will certainly suffer in ratings and popularity and so will the Ryder Cup Team, but all hope is not lost as many new young stars have generated loyal followings and the old guard will have a chance to shine in this year’s Tiger-less tour.

Player’s to Watch during Tiger’s Absence
Phil Mickelson
We almost lost faith in Phil, but last years head to head thriller against Tiger at the Deutsche Bank Championship sucked us back in. For the first time in his career Mickelson showed an inner fire and determination to beat Tiger Woods. Phil has the skills and is he could play with that passion on a regular basis he might just win some more majors despite his poor decision making in big spots.

Rory Sabbatini
The Skulls & Bone belt buckle should tell you that Rory Sabbatini is a gamer, but his play in final rounds against Tiger have been anything but fearless. Sabbatini can go either way, but his competitive spirit is fun to watch.

Luke Donald
Donald is a classic golfer who should win more regularly in the near future. His nerves seem to be under control at all times.
Adam Scott
Scott has won some big tournaments and has become a Top 5 player in the world. He has all the skills and seems to have a very solid mental approach. Adam Scott will need to win a major though, before he can earn any real consideration as a top rival to the world’s #1.
Bubba Watson
Abnormally long off the tee and solid around the greens is usually a formula for success in major championships. Bubba may be two years away from winning a major, but that day will arrive in the near future.
Sean O’Hair
One of most intriguing young golfer on the PGA Tour. In 2005 O’Hair started to sneak onto tournament leader-boards and in 2006 he was a regular fixture in the Top 25 at several events.
Ryuji Imada
Imada claimed his first victory on the PGA Tour this year, but only time will tell how far he can take his game. He has been placing high in most tournaments and is 9th in FEDEX points. Not sure how good Imada will be, so stay tuned.

Stewart Cink
With his win at the Travelers and several top finishes in 2008, Cink may prove to benefit from Tiger’s absence more than anyone on tour.
