CTFG at TPCWhen we signed up CTFoodandGolf.com as a sponsor for the Travelers Championship, one of our conditions was a tee time at the TPC River Highlands. On Sunday we had our chance, and a little brief thunderstorm withstanding, it was a great day of golf.

Here is a brief timeline of our day:

11:00am (Driving Range):

This was probably the most impressive part of our day. At CTFoodandGolf we are all public course players and we are excited when a course has a “grass” driving range. At the TPC we were treated to perfectly stacked pyramids of range balls, unlimited tees, perfectly manicured grass to hit from, and numerous actual greens to take aim at, though we usually missed our targets. We were so focused on hitting balls on the pristine range that we didn’t even have an opportunity to take advantage of the chipping and putting greens, which looked perfect as well.

12:00pm (Tee Time):

Whenever you play a new course, especially a TPC, the nerves tend to show up in a big way on the first tee and Sunday was no different. That being said, our group of double-digit handicappers handled the pressure pretty well and when the first hole was over, 2 in the group had pars and 1 made a birdie.

2:00pm (Making the Turn):

With severe thunderstorms looming we decided to skip a bite to eat at the turn and push ahead to the back nine.

Our Front Nine Scores

12 Handicap:

TPC 42 (Very happy with score, but as usual, left some silly shots on the course and that explains the 12 handicap)

20 Handicap:

42 (Sandbagger!)

20 Handicap:

48 (With the exception of 2 or 3 holes, played solid golf on the front nine)

28 Handicap:

55 (Started out with four snowmen, then settled down and played 4 over on the remaining 5 holes)

4:00pm (Thunderstorm):

The horn went off and the rain came fast! We were able to speed in and enjoy a Stella Artois at the restaurant while we watched the end of the Mets/Yankees game.

TPC4:30pm (Back to the 15th Hole):

We were the first back out on the course and we were ready to take on the well known 15th, 16th, and 17th holes, though our scores did not reflect such enthusiasm.

5:15pm

(Completed our Great Day of Golf)

Our Final Scores

12 Handicap:

88 (Always excited to break 90 at a tough course)

20 Handicap:

91 (Solid golf all day long though that handicap is coming down)

20 Handicap:

103 (Not his best day, but plenty of good shots to keep him coming back)

28 Handicap:

118 (Last we checked he was starting to come around, but unfortunately the back nine proved damaging to both his score and some of the neighboring homes on the golf course)

The Course

TPCThe TPC River Highlands is an absolute treat to play and if you have the opportunity to get a tee time you should take advantage. The course itself is not overly difficult so players of all levels can enjoy their rounds, as long as they play from the appropriate tee boxes.

Favorite Holes:

Par 5 13th:

With water to your left off the tee and in front of the green, this short par 5 demands accuracy and rewards smart golf.

Par 4 15th:

Any drivable par 4 is fun to play, though our group was unsuccessful in that endeavor. In fact two of us failed to drive the bridge 20 yards in front of the tee

Par 4 16th:

We have all seen this hole on TV. Water all the way up the hole on the right makes every shot a nerve-racking experience. Our group managed to only lose 4 golf balls on the hole = $16
