Tournament Preview

Tiger’s heroic win at Torrey Pines to capture his third US Open, will certainly be a tough act to follow for the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands this week. Unfortunately, at the cost of Tiger’s latest victory, the whole golfing world was dealt a major blow as Tiger caused further damage to his injured left knee. The result: A stress fracture & torn ligament which will cause Tiger to have to sit out the remainder of the year. With the World’s #1 player on the shelve for the rest of 2008, other PGA tour members must be salivating at the opportunity to finally win a tour event. Their first opportunity presents itself this week at the Travelers Championship.

The Travelers Championship is an exciting four day tournament event that draws an impressive field of PGA tour players worldwide. Travelers insurance company recently became title sponsor of this event and have seemingly revitalized a once defeated tournament. This resurgence is not only great for the PGA but for the residents of CT as well. Each day, the PGA’s best players are warmly greeted by large crowds and enthusiastic fans who are cheering on their every shot. This tournament is also a FedEx Cup event, which along with the new state of the art practice facility, helps draw golf’s top players as they look to climb up the FedEx standings.. Here are some players to watch:

Stewart Cink

Stewart Cink

Always one of the favorites whenever he enters a tournament. Nearly won the Accenture Match Play before falling to Tiger. (what else is new?)

J.B. Holmes

J.B. Holmes

Power fades all day long! Fun to watch and we think he will be a contender, but beware. If J.B. is in contention expect him to take his time on every shot.

Kenny Perry

Kenny Perry

Yes, Kenny Perry can still win tournaments and the TPC fits his game very nicely.

Justin Rose

Justin Rose

Rose needs to start winning tournaments before he levels off into the pack. Cromwell may be a good place to start.

Woody Austin

Woody Austin

Did Woody really say “anyone looks tough when they get tons of breaks”? Woody was referring to Tiger after his Saturday round, which by the way was magical and incredibly tough Woody!

Jason Gore

Jason Gore

It’s only a matter of time before Gore wins a major.

Bubba Watson

Bubba Watson

Might be the most fun to follow around during the tournament. Unreal power coupled with creativity around the greens makes for good golf. It almost sounds like John Daly without the cigarettes and of course Watson is a lefty.

D.J. Trahan

D.J. Trahan

Top 10 finish at the Open only confirms how good this young player will be in the near future.
